How to Fit A Racing Swimsuit

Excited About Your New Race Suit? Lets make sure it fits perfectly!

High-tech racing suits are built for performance, not comfort. Unlike your everyday training suit, these suits are constructed with advanced fabrics that offer much less stretch. This is because the fabric is engineered to compress your muscles, reduce drag, and enhance your hydrodynamics in the water. The suit’s construction is more rigid, providing a ‘second-skin’ fit that helps you move faster in the pool.

Fitting a tech suit can be tricky, and it can feel a bit tight at first, but don’t worry, we’re here to help with some expert tips.

It’s quite common to feel that the race suit you have purchased is too small, especially when it comes to fitting kids and teens. But did you know that if your measurements fall within the guide on the brand size charts, there’s a 90% chance the suit actually fits? The issue might be in how you've taken your measurements or the technique used to put the racing suit on.

Ensure the Perfect Fit with Accurate Measurements

Getting the right measurements is key to a perfect fit. Here's how to do it.

Chest (Girls/Women Only): Measure under your arm, around the fullest part of your chest, and around your back to the starting point under your arm.

Waist: Bend to one side to find the crease of your waist. Stand straight and measure as follows:

• For Female Race Suits: measure around your waist allowing one finger between your body and the tape.
• For Male Race Suits: measure 2.5cm below the crease of your waist or just above the hip bone where you’d typically wear your swimsuit.

Hips: Stand straight, find the top of your hip bone, and measure around your hips, keeping the tape on the top of your hip bone.

Torso/Body Loop: Run the tape measure over the fullest part of your bust, down between your legs, and up your back to your shoulder.

With these measurements, you can confidently check if your suit is the perfect size. If you’re still unsure, feel free to contact us for further assistance.

How to Fit A Racing Suit

Tip 1: Take your time!

The first time fitting your race suit is crucial, so make sure to allow 5-10 minutes for female suits and 3-5 minutes for male suits to fit the suit. Remember, a tech suit is different from your regular training suit as the fabric stretch is much more limited. If it feels like it is taking a long time to fit, that is not a sign that the suit is too small; it's just a part of the high performance design.

Tip 2: Watch our fitting videos for step-by-step guidance

These videos cover essential tips like how to turn the leg gripper over and work the suit up your thighs, waist (for male suits), and bust over the shoulders (for female suits). The fitting technique shown in the videos applies to all brands of racing suits. You may also like to consider using a Race Wrap to fit your racing suits. A race wrap is a handy tool especially for kneelength racing suits as it acts like a slip to allow the suit to slide up the body easily.
